General Assembly, Huge, and The UX Awards presented Top Trends in Award-Winning UX on Tuesday, August 4th, in London featuring UX professionals from innovative companies including Morgan StanleycxpartnersCogappQardio, and Swiftkey.

About This Event

What are the trends and common traits behind the winners at the UX Awards, and where are they headed?

Beverly May, Executive Director of the UX Awards, presented an overview of the UXies, showcased past winning work and case studies, and provided a quantitative and qualitative analysis of winning submissions and UX trends from the past four years that you can use to help improve your own portfolios, UX presentations, or awards submissions.

Beverly was joined by several past and current UX Awards winners and judges to talk about what they look for in submissions and how they evaluated UX, as well as how they approached crafting their own case studies.  See the full slideshow below.

Beverly is the founder and Executive Director of the UXies. She has nearly 2 decades` experience in tech, product development and UX and has helped launch hundreds of new digital initiatives at digital agencies, tech incubators, startups, major publishers and in Peacekeeping at the UN. Beverly is currently CTO & Head of Product and UX at a Castaclip, a 35-person mobile video software company in Berlin, Germany. Prior to that, she most recently taught UX at General Assembly and founded and led Oxford Tech, a boutique UX and product strategy consultancy in NY and San Francisco for the past 6 years that specialized in digital publishing and media. Beverly has an Executive MBA from the University of Oxford, a Master`s degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, and a BA from University of Toronto. She is a triple UK- Canadian- US citizen. She is also a regular public speaker and mentor on UX for incubators, startups and at UX

Ian Worley is an award-winning digital innovation and design strategist with over 15 years of experience advising organisations on the value of design-led innovation and the creation of integrated, multi-channel customer relationships. A passionate innovator, Ian has lead high-performance, cross-disciplinary teams that have delivered ground-breaking digital products and services in industries spanning media and entertainment, mobile services, travel, e-commerce and finance. As Global Head of User Experience and Design at Morgan Stanley, Ian leads a global team of talented design professionals developing next-generation client-facing and internal software, including Morgan Stanley Matrix, an award-winning product which continues to set new standards for interface design and customer experience in Financial Services. Ian holds a BA in Architecture from UT


Giles Colborne Photo

 Managing Director and Owner,

Giles Colborne is author of Simple and Usable and a frequent speaker on the topics of simplicity and delight at UX conferences around the world. He began his career at British Aerospace, working on the usability of critical systems before creating some of the first commercial websites at Institute of Physics Publishing and creating groundbreaking experiences at Euro RSCG network. Today, he’s Managing Director and owner of cxpartners, one of the UK’s most respected UX consultancies working with clients around the world designing next-generation user interfaces. He’s also active in the UX community as a mentor and as 2013 co-chair of IA Summit. Giles holds a BSC in Physics from the University of Bristol, UK.

 VP of User Experience,

Josh Payton is VP of User Experience in Huge’s European offices, partnering with Huge’s global strategy, design and development teams in the creation and rapid prototyping of concepts, ecosystems, and interfaces. Josh has worked for such clients as Turkish Airlines, Lowe’s, Four Seasons, Amex, Disney and many more in Huge’s Brooklyn, Los Angeles and London offices. During his decade-plus of interactive design experience, Josh has acted as the User Experience Design Lead for the home and storefront pages at and as a Senior Designer for Microsoft, Washington Post/Newsweek Interactive and Yahoo!

Eleanor is a Senior Designer at Cogapp, a Brighton-based agency specialising in ambitious digital media projects. She has most recently worked on a new website for Qatar Museums (which won Silver in Best Cultural Experience in the 2014 UX Awards) and the Qatar Digital Library. The Qatar Museums redesign involved a close collaboration with Wolff Olins, who helped Qatar Museums with a radical new strategy and brand.


Marco Peluso Photo

 CEO and Founder,

Marco Peluso is the CEO and Founder of award-winning consumer healthcare company Qardio. At 9, Marco taught himself computer programming and by 14, he was selling his software to small companies near where he lived. Marco’s professional career later spanned fourteen years in the financial industry, where he became a partner at one of Europe’s most established hedge funds, managing a multi-billion dollar investment portfolio. Marco then set out to establish the next frontier of healthcare by founding Qardio, which has since won several awards and pre-eminent industry recognitions including two CES 2015 Innovation Awards and Red Dot Awards: Product Design 2014 and 2015. Marco graduated from Bocconi University in Milan with a degree in Business Administration.

 VP of Design,

Scott Weiss is the VP of Design for SwiftKey, who make the smart keyboards that learn from you to make typing on touchscreens faster and easier. Scott’s team delivers appearance, behaviour, and branding for the company and its products.

Scott is a mobile design visionary and has led design teams in many prominent tech companies across the globe. In 2001 he started work on his seminal book “Handheld Usability” after discovering that there were no design texts for phones and other handheld devices, and has gone on to help create compelling user experiences on a wide range of mobile platforms. He’s worked with LG, Samsung, Vodafone and many other well-known brands, held career-level roles at Apple, Microsoft, Sybase and Autodesk, and run his own UX agency in New York.
