About This Workshop

As technology changes and more media outlets compete for customers’ time, providing an enjoyable experience is critical to both attracting and keeping users. This class aims to demystify UX by giving a practical and simple introduction to what UX is while also explaining some of its core concepts of usability. This is a field that affects all areas of business — prepare to dip your toes into an ocean of new concepts and ideas that will enlighten your perspective on the human-computer interaction experience.


  • Dive into modern web UI design.
  • Learn the various components of user interface design for the web
  • Learn how to make informed decisions about which types of UI design elements to choose when designing a website.
  • Learn effective layouts for site pages, as well best practice options for navigation, search, registration/account management, shopping carts and web copy style.
  • Sketch and design your own mobile app prototype

Prereqs & Preparation

Bring your laptop & cell phone. Nothing else required!

About the Instructor

Beverly May Photo

Founder & Executive Director of the UXies

Beverly has nearly 2 decades experience in tech, product development and UX and has helped launch hundreds of new digital initiatives at digital agencies, tech incubators, startups, major publishers and in Peacekeeping at the UN. Most recently, outside of the UXies, Beverly was CTO & Head of Product and UX at a 35-person mobile video software company in Berlin, Germany. She is also a top instructor at General Assembly globally in NY, London and San Francisco for both Product Management and UX. Beverly has an Executive MBA from the University of Oxford, a Master`s degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, and a BA with High Distinction from University of Toronto.
