You’re Not a User Experience Designer If…

By Julia Salem

Numerous people say they are user experience professionals, but how do they know for sure? There are no certifications or regulations, so you can’t tell who really is a UX expert. Here are a few ways to tell if you are working with a user experience design imposter by Whitney Hess.

1. They don’t talk to users.

2. They can’t identify the target audience.

3. They don’t define the problem before trying to solve it.

4. They can’t articulate the users’ goals.

5. They design in a vacuum.

6. They make design decisions based on their personal preferences.

7. They don’t consider the business objectives.

8. They don’t use UX methods.

9. They don’t design for conditions and edge cases.

10. They only think about the interface.
